Listen to Silent Night here
While the shepherds certainly understood the magnitude of what they had witnessed, both in the fields and at the stable, it seems that not enough people believed their story to act on it. There is no record that the stable became the Grand Central Station of Bethlehem, as one would expect when such incredible news was being told. Maybe it was because people expected their Messiah to arrive in more regal splendor than just a helpless baby in a feeding trough. They were looking for the righteous Branch of David to spring forth, to execute justice and righteousness on Earth. Because an infant didn’t fit their mold, and they had possibly forgotten the prophesies about Messiah the baby, they missed it.
